preserve me

the sun’s setting on my old

body, a soft stir awakening

new limbs & visions

that rested deep

in layers of skin.

god does this warmth

feel good

.

i can’t wait to take you

here, my new sunlight.

show you the twisting

river bends & fallen

trees, pluck burs from

each other’s legs.

we could rest here

for the waning day,

skim our fingers

across rib hills & lips

tender, pink like the spring.

your iris reflecting back

the water shimmering

at our toes,

swinging between bud-lined

trees like my old body

used to love

.

let that be the only familiar.

i yearn to live right here,

a moment that’s nothing special

but oh so spectacular
